This qualification recognises people who have the competencies required to perform as a Safety Officer in the workplace. It is awarded to people who have demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of representative tasks, including assuring own actions reduce risks to health and safety, demonstrating responsibility within the workplace to protect the environment, developing procedures to safely control work operations, monitoring procedures to safely control work operations, supervising the health, safety and welfare of an employee new to a role in the workplace, advocating health and safety within the workplace, developing and maintaining individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters, developing and implementing effective communication systems for health and safety information, developing and implementing health and safety programmes, conducting a health and safety risks assessment of a workplace, developing and implementing health and safety audit systems, developing and implementing health and safety emergency response systems and procedures, investigating and evaluating health and safety incidents, accidents and complaints in the workplace, reviewing health and safety procedures in workplaces, developing and reviewing the organisation's health and safety strategy, developing and implementing health and safety review systems, promoting a positive health and safety culture, and contributing to health safety legal actions.
